Labour Disputes Commission (DGK) support for employees and employers

Legal support before the Labour Disputes Commission

We help employees and employers. Select whether you are enquiring as an employee or an employer.

How it works

What is the Labour Disputes Commission?

The Labour Disputes Commission (DGK) examines individual disputes between employees and employers concerning wages and other payments, holiday pay, severance pay, dismissal or suspension. Application deadlines are limited: the general deadline is 3 months, or 1 month for dismissal or suspension disputes.

  • Examination of a dispute by DGK is free. Our legal services are charged separately.
  • DGK does not award litigation costs, including representation costs, so we discuss prices and the scope of work before starting.
  • A brief telephone conversation is free and carries no obligation. If you are unsure where to start, call us.
Frequently asked questions

What you should know about DGK

The general deadline is 3 months from the day you learned or should have learned of the violation of your rights. A 1-month deadline applies to unlawful dismissal, unlawful suspension from work and breach of a collective agreement. These are calendar months, not automatically 90 or 30 days. If the deadline is approaching, call us.
Submitting an application and having the dispute heard by DGK is free of charge. You pay only for the private legal services you choose. Our document review for employees costs €100, for employers €180excluding VAT. The prices for preparing an application or a response and for representation are given on the separate service pages.
For general labour law information you can turn to the State Labour Inspectorate. If you need your case documents assessed, the claimed sums calculated or help preparing for a DGK hearing, you can contact “Sostinės teisė”. A short first phone call is free; document review and other legal services are paid. Choose help for employees or help for employers.
A sample application form is published on the VDI website. When completing it, it is important not only to describe the event but also to state precisely what you are claiming, how you calculated the sums and which documents support them. If you want to submit a complaint to the Labour Disputes Commission, contact us. We will discuss your situation and explain how we can help prepare the application.
Check the response deadline and the hearing date stated in the DGK notice. Contact us: we will discuss the employee’s claims, the available evidence and the employer’s risks. Depending on the circumstances of the case, we can prepare a response, represent the employer at the hearing or conduct settlement negotiations.
Employee representation costs €200 per hearing and 10 % of the amount awarded. Employer representation costs €300 excluding VAT per hearing. Document review and preparing an application or a response are ordered separately. We agree the full scope of work and the price before starting.
If you disagree with a DGK decision, you can bring a claim before the court within 1 month of the decision. The court examines the labour dispute afresh, so this is not an ordinary appeal. We can assess the decision, the available evidence and the prospects of further proceedings.
If the employer does not pay the amount awarded, it is necessary to assess whether the decision is already enforceable and to apply for enforcement to a bailiff. VDI does not collect debts itself. Contact us: we will discuss the DGK decision, the payments received and what further steps your case needs.
